Con esta serie de artículos me propongo compartir temas de interés para los nuevos participantes en el mercado mayorista de electricidad de México, así como para las compañías del sector eléctrico que están considerando su participación, ya sea directa o indirectamente, y para todos aquellos profesionales que tenemos un interés común en los mercados eléctricos.

Estos artículos no tienen como objetivo dar una versión exhaustiva de conceptos u operación del mercado, ya que considero que para ello existe material fantástico del CENACE con sus cursos y manuales del mercado. Mi objetivo es acercarme a temas de interés desde el punto de vista de los participantes del mercado, y utilizando la experiencia acumulada en el ya más de un año de operación del MEM, y mis quince años entregando soluciones a participantes en el resto de los mercados eléctricos de América del Norte.

Los ejemplos, opiniones de este blog son exclusivos del autor y no representan la de ninguno de los clientes de PCI.


Parte 4 (y Final): Procesos críticos de negocio de un Suministrador Calificado 

En mi anterior entrada de blog describí los procesos de administración de contratos de cobertura y los principales retos que deben afrontar los nuevos participantes del mercado. En esta última entrada describiré el cuarto bloque de procesos críticos del negocio de suministro calificado: el análisis de ganancias y pérdidas.

Análisis de Ganancias y Pérdidas (P&L)

En la esencia de todo negocio está el análisis de las Ganancias y Pérdidas (P&L). Desde el punto de vista del suministrador calificado, el P&L está compuesto principalmente de los siguientes componentes:

  • Ingresos y egresos resultantes de las transacciones en el mercado mayorista (liquidaciones del mercado): compras y venta de energía y servicios conexos, cargos por transporte y distribución, cargos administrativos, pagos y cargos relacionados con potencia, CELs, transacciones bilaterales, derechos financieros de transmisión (DFTs), y un largo etcétera.
  • Ingresos resultantes de la venta de productos y servicios a los clientes
  • Ingresos y egresos resultantes de los contratos de cobertura y de otras transacciones bilaterales, ya sea nacionales, internacionales, físicas o financieras.

El cálculo de Ganancias y Pérdidas requiere de conocimientos de mercado. Sin duda, la tarea más ardua es la de poder consolidar todos los componentes que afectan el P&L y poder analizarlos a distintos niveles y desgloses como, por ejemplo:

  • Por portafolio
  • Por cliente
  • Por participante de mercado y cuentas de orden
  • Por nodo
  • Por contrato
  • Por producto
  • Por concepto.

Conclusión

La ejecución de los procesos de negocio críticos para un suministrador calificado en el mercado mayorista requiere de un entendimiento muy completo de las operaciones y diseño de los mercados administrados por el CENACE, así como de sistemas de información que faciliten la ejecución y análisis de las transacciones. Esto, además, es cierto para todo tipo de portafolios de energía, ya que incluso pequeños portafolios pueden resultar en un número elevado de transacciones y volumen de datos desde el comienzo de operaciones en el mercado.

Una de las principales ventajas competitivas de un suministrador calificado radica en poder efectuar todos los procesos citados en este artículo de manera rápida y eficiente, para poder canalizar la mayor parte del esfuerzo en el análisis de los resultados y la inteligencia del negocio. Para esto, plataformas integradas de comercialización de energía que estén adaptadas al mercado mexicano y que tengan fuertes capacidades de automatización de procesos son una de las claves del éxito.
