The California ISO (CAISO) western energy imbalance market (WEIM) is pursuing an expansion over the next couple of years to incorporate an enhanced day-ahead market (EDAM). Many WEIM market participants, as they evaluate the cost benefit of the EDAM for their operations, would like to understand the potential impacts of EDAM on the CAISO WEIM in three critical respects:
• Market operations and settlement charge codes for both Merchant and Balancing Area (BA groups)
• Relationship (“connect the dots”) between front-office bidding strategies and settlement results
• Visualize how settlement results can drive profits for their merchant portfolio (participating resources) and charges for their BA portfolio (loads, interties, and nonparticipating resources)
Attendees will come away from this intensive course with a wealth of valuable knowledge:
• How the new EDAM will impact the front-office workflow for merchant groups and balancing areas
• EDAM charge codes
• How settlement results can be used as a strategic tool
Course Instructors:
• Khai Le, Senior Vice President, PCI
• Justin Shearer, Senior Director, PCI
